A Bit of Background

Why Chrysus Spirit Goldens?
Committed to Improving the Lives of Others
I'm Rachelle (she/her) and I am the breeder behind Chrysus Spirit Goldens. My love for the breed began when my child with special needs required further additional support. As a Registered Nurse, I dove into all the available research and found that he would benefit from having a K9 companion. Further research led us to the Golden Retriever. So, I began my search for the perfect dog. It was difficult however to find a well-bred puppy at a reasonable cost. Although there are many breeders it was difficult finding one with health-tested parents, sound temperaments, and at a price that wouldn't take away from my child's medical needs. Having been personally impacted by the positive life changes a Golden Retriever can bring to the lives of a child and family I decided it would be one of my lifetime goals to give back to the community. Every family, especially families that have special needs children, deserves a companion of a lifetime. I also believe in the importance of equality and equity and look to provide a personalized experience for every type of family.

From this Chrysus Spirit Goldens has developed into a small kennel devoted to PERSONALLY training, working, and breeding golden retrievers. You will find that our dogs live and are handled, and worked by us. What started as getting a dog for a specific need has turned into a newfound passion. Currently, I continue to venture into all kinds of activities with my dogs. Search & Rescue, Therapy Training, Trick, Rally, Scent Work, Obedience, Barn Hunting, and more. I am also a board member, treasurer and columnist of the local Evergreen Golden Retriever Club. Watch for my articles in the upcoming Golden Retriever Club of America magazine. I am also a member of Whistling Wings Hunting Retriever Club.

Our Commitment to Health & Genetics
Beyond training and temperament, we are deeply committed to protecting the long-term health of Golden Retrievers. Modern Goldens face challenges with shrinking genetic diversity, so we carefully plan each pairing with the future of the breed in mind.

-
We use advanced genetic tools (BetterBred, Institute of Canine Biology, and the Dog Aging Project) to guide pairings that lower the Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI) and preserve rare alleles and DLA haplotypes.
-
We purposefully seek out underrepresented bloodlines to help ensure our puppies are not only wonderful companions, but also a part of improving the breed’s future.
A Personal Promise
Every family deserves the joy of a healthy, well-bred Golden Retriever. I believe strongly in equity and accessibility, providing a personalized, supportive experience for each family we work with. My background as a nurse and my own journey with a special needs child have taught me how deeply a dog can impact a family’s life.

At Chrysus Spirit Goldens, this is more than breeding dogs, it’s about building bonds, strengthening the breed, and helping families welcome the kind of Golden that changes lives.

Education
Breeding Ethically and Responsibly
I use my skills as a Registered Nurse to provide the best Golden Retrievers that I can. I continue to devote to educating myself, evaluating research, and using best practices for breeding. I am also involved in several research studies with hopes of improving the breed.
